Most people talk about Artificial Intelligence. Very few understand the mathematics that actually powers it. This qualification is for people who want to be in that second group. The ATHE Level 5 Diploma in Computing and Advanced Statistics is a 60-credit qualification aimed at learners who want to move on from foundational topics at Level 4, within the context of the advanced statistics necessary for understanding Artificial Intelligence. Here's why this course matters. Every AI model — every machine learning algorithm, every predictive system, every data-driven decision tool — is built on statistical mathematics. Without that foundation, you're using AI as a black box. With it, you understand why it works, when it fails, and how to build something better. That understanding is what separates a competent data professional from an exceptional one. The qualification covers key computing content at Level 5 — digital transformation, professional development, business communication and information systems — and builds on Level 4 maths and statistics to develop understanding in statistical modelling. This maths understanding is the foundation for the AI units in the Level 5 Extended Diploma. This is a tightly focused, 60-credit qualification — smaller than an Extended Diploma by design. It's built to develop a specific, high-value skillset: the statistical and computing knowledge that underpins modern AI and data science. It is particularly well suited to learners who already have a background in maths. All assessments are assignment-based — no exams

This qualification is designed for learners who are typically aged 18 and above.
It is particularly suited to people who have a background or strong interest in mathematics and want to build the statistical expertise needed for AI and data science roles.
The entry profile is likely to include at least one of the following: prior study in computing or related subjects at Level 4 or above, a Level 4 qualification such as an ATHE Level 4 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Computing, or a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) in a computing-related subject.
Equivalent international qualifications are also considered.
A genuine interest and ability in mathematics is strongly recommended for this course — the Advanced Statistics unit moves quickly and assumes comfort with mathematical thinking.
English Language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 or above
If English is not your first language, Come To UK Academy will determine your English Language Proficiency
This diploma is designed to feed directly into further Level 5 study. On completion, you're well positioned to progress to the ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Computing (Data Technologist) or the AI pathway — building on the statistical foundations you've established here to go deeper into machine learning and data engineering. From there, you can top up to a full BSc (Hons) at a UK university — typically in one to two additional years of study — in subjects including Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or Business Intelligence. Career pathways this qualification supports: Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Developer, Data Analyst, Quantitative Analyst, Statistical Modeller, Business Intelligence Specialist.
The Diploma is issued by the ATHE – Awarding Organisation. Come To UK Academy is an approved Learning Centre for ATHE qualifications.
